Flash Floods Claim 4 Lives in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi District

Four persons, including three members of a family, were reportedly killed as flash floods -- triggered by a cloudburst -- submerged large areas in Dharampur in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district on Saturday morning.
According to reports, many vehicles and houses were washed away in the flash floods in Dharampur, about 250 km from state capital Shimla. It also caused a heavy loss of livestock.
According to PTI, three members of a family were feared be buried alive after their house collapsed due to a landslide caused by the flash flood, while a Hindu saint was washed away in the strong current of Son Khud river, the agency reported citing police.
Waters of the overflowing Son Khud inundated a bus stand at Dharampur, forcing the passengers waiting there to rush to the first floor of the building to save themselves. Water entered several houses and shops in the area. According to reports, many buses were damaged in the sudden flood, while some cars washed away.
The district administration and the local people were trying to rescue stranded people in the wake of the flash flood and landslides. Heavy rainfall and landslides have damaged various roads, including a national highway, in the area.
